Housed in a brownstone building, Commonwealth School is one of the most respected schools in Boston. This private, coeducational school is small but mighty, with a current enrollment of about 150 students in ninth through 12th grade. The coursework is rigorous and creative, with smaller classroom sizes allowing individualized academic attention. It enables students to delve deeper into subjects of interest, such as social sciences, the arts, languages or history, where they can study everything from photography to Mandarin.
Students who decide to take on a second language can expand their knowledge and even travel to France, Spain or Italy through Commonwealth’s study abroad program.
The school also provides clubs, sports and a literary magazine that students can join. In addition to extracurriculars, Commonwealth hosts special guest speakers on most Thursdays ranging from politicians and alums to Grammy award winners and jewelry designers.

I love Commonwealth. The community is great and everyone is smart and kind. There is an incredible variety of classes offered, and there is a class that will interest someone at every level. The workload is very intense at times, but the teachers are very supportive and helpful.

Without a doubt the most transformative experience of my life. Students are given college-level classes with deeply knowledgeable and caring faculty. If you want to challenge your limits, this is the place to go.

As a parent of a rising senior, I could not be more happy with Commonwealth. The quality of education, the commitment from the faculty and staff is amazing. It is a small school and athletics are somewhat limited so that is good to know in advance. Overall it is an amazing school!
