Empowering leaders for tomorrow.” The school manages to do just that by adopting the Leader in Me program model based on Stephen Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which helps students to develop the confidence, skills and self-assurance they need to thrive in high school and beyond. It also promotes Common Core curriculum to ensure a well-rounded learning experience. The school has planned incredible international trips for students in past years, features a sustainability program with the goal to become Zero Waste by 2030, and offers numerous clubs and organizations in which students can participate. Middle schoolers at Charles O. Dewey can commute to school via the express 36th Street subway station where the N, R, W trains converge, or take the 4th Avenue bus to the 39th Street station for more local routes. Local parks include Gonzalo Plasencia Playground and Sunset Park, and the Sunset Park branch of the Brooklyn Public Library system is just a mere two blocks away.
