Located along the Kensington borders of Coney Island Avenue is Middle School 890, a zoned public school that shares its walls with Public School 889, welcoming many of its graduates. With an enrollment of approximately 300 students, the school opened its doors in 2017 and is a newer institution that has quickly made strides in improving education. On top of traditional studies, students are offered two academic enrichment programs. The first option includes concentrating on fields such as STEM, humanities, or arts and language. In contrast, the SPARK program encourages students to pursue personal interests, including engineering, robotics, journalism, film production and more. The school emphasizes academic achievement, as evidenced by above-average scores on the New York State exams and one of the highest attendance rates in the city.
