With a student population of approximately 900, P.S. 506 The School of Journalism and Technology is a large elementary school in Sunset Park located on 59th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues. The school also has a pre-kindergarten classroom, helping the youngest learners transition to elementary school.
Curriculum includes Leader in Me programming to encourage self-assured and confident students, a journalism class, technology programs and a school newspaper produced by children in third through fifth grades. The school also offers a dual language Spanish and English program, but there are also opportunities for English as a second language students from other backgrounds.
The school recognizes the importance the arts play in student life and offers a dance unit in partnership with Dancewave, as well as virtual theater programs through various theater organizations. Some students also participate in music through violin class.
The School of Journalism and Technology is easily accessed via the R, W, and N lines at the 59th Street subway station, and the 4th Avenue bus lines.

Too many kids in one class, 24 or 25. My daughter has been in the America only two years, and she's already the best English reader in her class.
