P.S. 971 School of Math, Science, and Healthy Living is an elementary school in Sunset Park on the corner of 4th Avenue and 63rd Street. Serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade, this school is one of four vegetarian schools in New York City, adopting a vegetarian menu for all school provided meals. Students at P.S. 971 are offered a variety of programming that features a STEAM fair, media club and college week. The school’s media club offers students with passions for film and photography a chance to grow their skills with short film projects, video editing and photography courses with exhibition opportunities. The school also has a storied arts program with dance, music, theater and visual arts, including past partnerships with organizations such as the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Sunset Spark, Lincoln Center, and the New York Historical Society to ensure students receive a well-rounded education. With easy access to the 59th Street subway station, students can efficiently commute to and from school.

A small diamond in the rough. You really have to go to the school to get to know it because it is so much more than tests scores. The culture is great and the kids are sweet!
