Buhrer Dual Language Academy is an elementary school in the Tremont neighborhood on the west side of Cleveland. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and serves around 413 students in grades pre-K through eighth. BDLA holds the distinction of being the first dual language education program in Ohio. Students receive instruction in core subjects in English and Spanish, leading to proficiency in both languages and enhanced cross-cultural competency. Students also graduate from Buhrer with high school credit in Spanish 1.
Buhrer Bulldogs learn in a rigorous academic community that is committed to the development of the whole child academically, socially and emotionally. Each year, teachers and staff develop an academic achievement plan, which establishes the instructional focus for the school year.
Buhrer’s administrators, teachers and staff share the goal of creating a safe, collaborative setting in which students can achieve their highest potential. Students at BDLA can access wraparound services such as tutoring, mental health support, medical, dental and vision resources and receive nutritious foods.
Students can choose to participate in several extracurricular activities. Their options include volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. In addition, students can join the NOW anti-bullying program, conflict mediation team, student council or any student council advisory groups.
