Located in a quiet Burke subdivision, Cherry Run Elementary School (Cherry Run) enrolls approximately 440 pupils in its pre-K and K-6 programs, with a student-teacher ratio of 11-to-1. Cherry Run’s approach emphasizes small-group instruction, team teaching, and project-based learning. The school is also among several elementary schools in Fairfax County to offer the Young Scholars Model, which identifies and nurtures advanced academic potential by addressing underrepresentation in gifted programs. Additionally, sixth-grade students have the option to participate in seventh-grade advanced math courses. Having grown from three makeshift instructional pods when the school opened in 1983, Cherry Run’s brick building significantly expanded in 2016 with an additional 23,000 square feet of new classroom and office spaces. Extracurricular opportunities throughout the school are plentiful, including fencing, yoga, Lego club, Odyssey of the Mind, chess club, and band. Cherry Run’s faculty share a commitment to fostering civic responsibility and mutual respect, as well as equipping students with critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Combined with an active PTA that includes neighboring communities in its special events, it’s easy to see why Cherry Run is a special part of Burke area living.

Mark Bibbee is the issue. Being that he is the principal it has a trickle down effect. Staff are lazy and rude. When you bring it to Mr Bibbees attention he says he will do something about it but does nothing. You can see him regularly flirting with staff members and moms. Bullying is an issue. My s...

We have two children enrolled and have been very happy with the classroom engagement and the learning environment. It is a small school with mostly walkers. The school is located within the neighborhood as opposed to some of the other elementary schools in the area that are positioned right off of m...

Outstanding school! Very active parental involvement, superb teachers and administrators while located inside a safe subdivision with sidewalks and little traffic. My children are receiving a wonderful education!

The principal is terrible. He will speak to issues but when it comes down to it, he does not take action and does not accept any responsibility for how his school is run. He has staff that he himself complains about. He does not care about the students well being or academic progress He will promise...
