GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

For being a small town high school, it is pretty good. We have enough opportunities to prepare us for college but not enough that allows us to figure out what we want for our future. We are very limited in activities, and clubs. I feel that we don't have a very big platform for music or art. But we do get by with what we have, and the community that is here in Sumter County is very welcoming.

The school is actually a pretty good school within itself, it's the people that attend and work there that make it difficult to withstand.

Some of the best parts about being a student at South Sumter High School is the connection between all of the students. If you do not have the right attendance than you are very restricted when excelling academically. Even if you have A's and B's you still have to take the semester exam and I personally do not think that it should be required if you have all of you assignments done. Even if you get the 75 on the exam it still may average your grade lower than you like especially if it was higher than the score you made on the exam. Some students have after school jobs that take up all of there time that they need to be at. For example I have to pay my mom four hundred dollars a month and I only make eleven dollars a hours. So i need at least twenty five hours a week so I can have gas money and accessible money to spend on school activity's. Given my situation it gives me little time to do after school work or even time to study for the exam.

most of the five star reviews you see here are either teachers or students of teachers.....beware before you put your child in this school, go to complaint.tv.com to see one of the recent stories on bullying. you will save yourself and your child a lot of grief, and if you don't have 900.00 saved up...

I don't think you will be happy with this school, but give it a try. Not many schools these days are very good. Children may like the school, but just know that they will be no where near being prepared for college by going to this one.
