Opened in 2013 in Downtown Canton, Canton College Preparatory School is a public charter school serving about 400 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. As a community school, Canton College Prep is open to any student in the county and is tuition-free. The curriculum is based on learning standards established by the State of Ohio and focuses on six areas: English language arts, mathematics, physical education, science, social studies and visual arts.
To provide a foundation for future learning, special emphasis is placed on English language arts and mathematics. The school day at Canton College Prep is longer than at most other schools, which is intended to provide for individualized instruction and more time devoted to each task. Field trips, clubs and organizations, and after school programs provide extracurricular learning while a variety of intramural sports and activities are offered for individual growth and team learning.
Free breakfast and lunch are provided, and bus transportation is available through a working agreement with the Canton City School District. Canton College Preparatory School is operated by Accel Schools, a charter management organization based in Independence, Ohio. Accel manages charter schools nationwide, with a concentration in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.
