Although Theodore Roosevelt High School is located in the Albany Park neighborhood, potential students across Chicago apply to become a Rough Rider. They’re drawn to Roosevelt High by the school’s four highly-regarded academic programs: the Career and Technical Education Program, Scholars Program, Arts Program and Dual-Language Program.
Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), a military-prep program that instills students with a strong sense of character and discipline, is also offered at Roosevelt High.
Half of all students here will graduate with college credits or continue on the path to a technical career certification. In 2020, graduates were awarded nearly $6 million in scholarships, including full-rides to the University of Chicago, Washington University and Northwestern University.
Athletic-minded students can try out for a variety of seasonal sports, including the seven-time conference champion varsity football team or the two-time conference champion girls varsity volleyball team.
In the 100 years since Roosevelt High opened its doors, many notable alumni have roamed its halls. Most famous of those may be Nelson Algren, the beloved Chicago author whose National Book Award-winning novel, “The Man with the Golden Arm,” cemented his status as one of the great American novelists.

The past 4 years I've been at the high school slowly but surely there were some drastic mainly towards the end of my junior year and my current year as a Senior. They are building a new field for us and for future generations to use and they have also added vending machines something our school has been asking for many years. We also expressed our other concerns about the school but those changes haven't been made just yet.

It was a difficult and decent experience since I started HighSchool 2020. Freshman year was a bit hard since everyone had to do online classes because of the pandemic and it was hard to focus because we were at home. Then when sophomore year started everything was new. It was scary to start new thing and make some friends but at the end of the day it was alright. Some teachers are nice and are always expect the best of us which I appreciate.

I would love to see more cleanliness of the bathrooms and better school lunches. Also allowing the bathrooms to be open because they get full when they only leave one open causing students to arrive tardy to class
