Columbus West Elementary School transforms students into critical thinkers, problem solvers and contributing citizens. By fostering an innovative and cooperative school climate, teachers are receptive to student ideas and feel supported and respected by parents. Serving students in prekindergarten through fifth grade, Columbus West Elementary hopes that all students feel empowered to become confident and responsible young learners by the time they graduate. The school is located at the edge of a residential section of Cicero and right across the street from Columbus East Elementary School. The two used to be one school, but were eventually split into two distinctive elementary schools. Columbus West’s building is the newer of the two facilities. Students at Columbus West are provided with access to psychologists, social workers, interventionists, nurses and psychologists to ensure their academic, social, and emotional needs are met. Furthermore, the school assists non-native English speakers by providing access to bilingual teachers and interpreters in the classroom. Extracurriculars include choir, service club, ukulele club and a fun reading program, plus regular parent coffee nights and support sessions.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
