Sherlock Elementary School was reconstructed in 2019, making its facilities some of the newest in Cicero School District 99. The updates to the building weren’t just for aesthetics. The school’s approximately 600 prekindergarten through sixth-grade students can now experience classrooms with interactive video walls and desks that can morph to fit various instruction styles. Teachers are encouraged to lead their students around the building and take advantage of the school’s various alternative learning environments. The curriculum heavily emphasizes the importance of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields. But Sherlock is more than its incredible facilities. The school also aims to be a community that supports its students and teaches resilience in the face of academic, social and emotional challenges. Students are taught that it is okay to face difficulties while learning and to exhibit perseverance. The school continuously celebrates student progress and offers support when needed. The school makes sure it employs the faculty and staff needed to support its students. Those staff members include classroom interventionists, a psychologist, and a social worker. It also has bilingual educators to assist students whose first language is Spanish.
