Ascher Silberstein Elementary School is located on the southwest corner of the Urbandale-Parkdale neighborhood four miles east of downtown Dallas. Bordering a local park on the east, the setting at 3101 Lawnview Avenue is conducive to a vibrant learning environment. During the past several years, the school has had record improvement in student assessments by engaging each child in the learning process. Ranking above average in academics, the administration continues to encourage new ideas and critical thinking using a metacognitive approach in a professional learning environment. Alongside a stated vision to be a premier elementary school, the administration has programs that support community partnership with parents. Intersession School is one example of support where select children are invited to take part in special sessions with the opportunity for more personalized attention in smaller groups. Extracurricular activities range from sports to chess, and from gardening to yoga. With an enrollment of 580 students, and a student-teacher ratio of 15-1, Ascher Silberstein serves pre-K through 5th grade. The school offers a mission statement of “equitably educating all students for success.” As the students display their red and white school colors with pride in the classroom, on the playground, or on the soccer field, it is no surprise that their mascot is the “Stars.” This school upholds each child as they shine brightly with their core values: “Determination, Courage, Integrity, and Unity.”
