Ben Milam Elementary School has been a mainstay in the Dallas metro area, with a long history of educating the community's youngest students. Located in the Uptown area, the school was constructed in 1912 and originally called the Fairland School. Today, it now serves more than 270 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade, who dress in school uniforms each day. Ben Milam prides itself on a rigorous curriculum supported by Assessment for Learning – an approach to teaching that uses feedback to improve students’ performance – Readers2Leaders and technology programs, such as Education Galaxy. The school also focuses on developing the next generation of leaders. It offers a Learner Dispositions program that encourages scholars to take ownership of their learning and work collaboratively and independently while embracing challenges. Extracurriculars are highly valued at Ben Milam. Once students reach second grade, they can participate in basketball and track in addition to UIL academic clubs offered at the school. A large portion of its student body attends the school’s daily after-school program, where they spend even more time learning about math, science, literature, sports and fine arts.

The teachers, principal and staff are fantastic. I highly recommend this school. I wish it were a bit more diverse but overall great experience for my child.

We have been blown away by our experience at Ben Milam, with the principal and staff, and the services provided to our special needs kiddo. We absolutely love how small the school is and that all the teachers call the children by name, not just the children in their classroom. The principal is UNBEL...

This school is terrible. The staff and its new, unnecessary vice principal are completely unprofessional.
