Newly renovated Edna Rowe Elementary School, at 4918 Hovenkamp Drive, is in the heart of the Urbandale-Parkdale neighborhood, just four miles east of downtown Dallas. Surrounded by established homes and pocket parks, the school welcomes 380 pre-K through 5th grade students, with a 12:1 student-teacher ratio. The school is named after Miss Edna Rowe, who inspired young students for 54 years as a pioneer educator in the Dallas Independent School District. Living up to her legacy of service as a teacher and a counselor, Edna Rowe Elementary School’s motto is “to form lifelong learners who become responsible citizens.” The vision is to make every student “future ready.” To improve an average rating in academics, STEAM, or science, technology, engineering, art and math-focused multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and multi-literate programs encourage mastery in two languages. Parents work alongside teachers supporting innovative coursework and extracurricular programs. Nationally recognized as a “No Place for Hate” school, the students take an active role in this anti-bullying program inside and outside the classroom. The theatre arts, drum line, debate and chess clubs are a few of the extracurricular activities that engage leadership skills. “Pre-K today. Professionals Tomorrow,” represents the forward-thinking vision of taking success in the classroom and into the world. In the spirit of their mascot, the roadrunner, the students are moving fast toward their futures and aspiring to fly high.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Horrible. The principal needs to be fired. Teachers are doing what they can, but no support from the principal.
