Nestled among parks and homes on the southern edge of the Urbandale/Parkdale neighborhood southeast of downtown Dallas, Nova Academy offers an alternative for your child’s elementary education.
This academy is the only public, tuition-free charter school situated in this neighborhood at 6459 Scyene Rd. One of three locations of Nova Academy, the Scyene academy, has a working enrollment of 136 students, pre-K through fourth grade, where the student-teacher ratio is 17-1. Rankings on standardized testing in reading and math are below the state average. However, the academy has programs in place to bring those numbers in line with their mission, including tutoring, Saturday school, and special classes.
Nova Academy Scyene prides itself on its mission to cultivate its vibrant, multicultural environment where parents are in partnership with teachers to grow excellence in academics. It is no surprise that the new principal has brought improvements to the teaching staff, academics, as well as the physical plant, with more plans in place for the future. The student spirit lives through their mascot, the Mustang, as they fly the school’s red, white, and blue colors at their soccer matches.
The sound of the students’ creed rings true, “We are a team. Remember, we are team players.” Plus, something big is happening at the Scyene campus: The school is expanding with the addition of a fifth-grade class for the 2022-2023 academic school year.
