For accelerated education, the William B.Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted is one of the premier and top-ranked schools in Texas.
The school, which serves about 500 students, consists of two of the Dallas Independent School District’s magnet schools. Students in grades fourth and fifth are served in the Vanguard while grades sixth through eighth attend the Academy. Both schools are rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency.
Admission to the school is based on academic achievement. Students receive enhanced curriculum in language arts, foreign languages, math, science, social studies, humanities and computer science. Students are able to take part in a variety of extracurriculars, such as local and state math and science competitions, foreign language competitions, as well as opportunities to participate in band, orchestra, drama, art and more. The school is located in the heart of Uptown, near downtown Dallas, but serves students throughout the metro area.
