With a tight-knit community of under 300 Pre-K to 8th grade children benefiting from double the national average of teachers to students, the Arbor Montessori School is the premiere private campus at Briarcliff. Montessori emphasizes the freedom of its students to follow their interests at their own pace, using an ungraded experimental curriculum to get students learning about the topics that matter to them as individuals. With teachers encouraging active and physical participation, Montessori seeks to teach topics rather than enforce memorization. The academics include conventional areas like English language, math, spanish, and humanities, but adds on occupations, which gets students directly involved in the sciences through hands-on projects. 7th and 8th year students cap off their closing years at Montessori with trips to Washington D.C. and the Dominican Republic. Optional classes include subjects such as karate, Lego robotics, chorus, yoga, drama, chess, dance, and soccer.

I don't recommend Arbor if you're seeking academic rigor or emotional support/resources for your child. My child was there from 2021-2023 (ages 3-5). Arbor didn't live up to its reputation in the Montessori community. We discovered that the Head of School, Primary Program Direction & Board Pres. lack skills & character to operate a successful program. Arbor had inadequate educational & emotional support & resources for children, teachers & parents. The program wasn't as educationally engaging as expected, the teachers lacked training to identify & utilize child's strengths, teachers avoided using different approaches to learning, there was inadequate language arts instruction, limited outdoor play (15-min/day (Scott campus)), no gardening activities (Scott campus), etc. Leadership intentionally keeps parents in that dark about their child's progress.

We are new parents at Arbor, but we have been very happy with our daughter's experience in the toddler community.

Teachers are all fantastic. I haven't met a teacher yet that I wouldn't be thrilled for my son to have.

My child attended Arbor from 2021-2024 in the Primary Class from ages 3-5. Initially in interviews we were impressed and excited to engage in the Montessori curriculum — thinking this approach would establish a strong foundation and autonomy. Unfortunately, we were wrong. From the beginning the clas...

My son was not emotionally safe at Arbor Montessori School. We started 8/2021. Soon after, a member of the lead teacher's immediate family became ill requiring unexpected & sometimes long absences. Though the situation caused lots of inconsistency and concern about how our kids would be affected, we...

Our daughter attended this school for close to 2 years. Here is what our experience has been:- toddler class was relatively ok, though I wonder if things were happening that our little girl just couldn't express at that age. - in pre-k, the teachers were extremely cold and harsh in addressing a 3-ye...
