The Dekalb International Student Center is located on Midway Road in Decatur’s Belvedere Park neighborhood. This school serves students in third through 12th grade and offers a language learning and cultural immersion curriculum. The Dekalb International Student Center’s mission is to teach English to non-native English speakers through two different programs: LAB and Intensive English. Students in the Intensive English program only come to the school for about one semester and learn both social and academic skills that will prepare them for learning at their home school. Students participating in the LAB Program attend the school for up to two years to develop their English skills in the areas of speaking, reading and writing across all content areas. These programs are meant to ensure student success for ESL speakers in their neighborhood high schools. The Dekalb International Student Center has three main goals: to provide quality English language instruction that yields effective academic and social skills, to assess students at their functional level, and to respect cultural diversity and universal human rights.
