Winnona Park Elementary School is an Expeditionary Learning school in the Belvedere Park neighborhood of Decatur that serves students in kindergarten through second grade.
Expeditionary Learning Education is a K-2 program offered at select public schools in Decatur, Winnona Park being one of them. This forward-thinking program is a fantastic reform model that was formulated by Outward Bound and the Harvard School of Education to create more equitable outcomes for students and ensure that each student reaches their full potential.
Winnona Park Elementary also implements a support system that integrates student assessment and intervention within a school-wide, multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavioral problems. With this system, educators screen each individual student to identify areas of need, provide calculated instruction, collect data on student progress and use the data to build personalized lesson plans. Winonna Park Elementary is one of the most dynamic and ambitious schools in the district, and a great school for young learners.

My daughter has a learning disability, and although I wish it could have been addressed with an iep sooner, she has received services and is now thriving. With 2 children who have made their way through this school, I can say that a majority of the faculty and staff is top notch.
