John Mills Elementary School provides pre-K through fifth grade education for children who live north of the railroad tracks in Elmwood Park. The sister school, Elmwood Elementary, does the same for those on the south side of town. Both elementary schools have benefited from a recent referendum to upgrade and improve facilities. John Mills Elementary is named for a real estate developer who played a major role in developing the northern area of Elmwood Park. You'll see his name around town, and it's also used to describe the specific style of home in this neighborhood, the Mills Bungalow. John Mills offers its student population a standards-based education with plenty of above-standard programs as supplements. Additional academic opportunities include accelerated learning, special education, English learning programs, extended day programs and summer classes. Aside from taking classes, students can follow their interests through a variety of extracurricular activities. They can compete in intramural sports, perform in the music program, get creative in the art club or break stories in the school newspaper.

Since my children began attending this school I've seen improvements across the board. The teachers are supportive, attentive, organized, and the children overall seem more engaged.

My daughter went here from 1st to 6th grade. Now my son is in Kindergarten here. Lovely school teachers and staff. Very attentive to your child's needs. The class sizes are smaller and really help push the children to excel and encourage them!

I have been very happy with everything about the school. Any issues that my son has had with kids have been addressed immediately and I was notified just as quick. The teachers have all been very supportive with my sons learning and well being. I haven’t had a bad experience at all.
