The Hillside Elementary Huskies are committed to "learning and leading together." Serving kindergarteners through fifth graders with an academic program that promotes personal responsibility, organization, respect for others, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle, Hillside Elementary emphasizes social and emotional learning initiatives.
Scholastically, students participate in the English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, and stay active in P.E. classes. Physical fitness sessions stress movement and include dribbling, jumping, throwing, leaping, hopping, catching, skipping, sliding and running.
Partnering with the Farmington YMCA for before and after school programming, Hillside Elementary invites students' parents to explore the many opportunities children have to enrich their learning and social lives participating in activities sponsored by Detroit's YMCA.
From robots and games to help with homework, the YMCA supports before and after school recreation that extends academic and extracurricular support outside the public school classroom.
Students make new friends by joining school clubs like Coding, the Cartooning Workshop, Chess, Choir, and the First Lego League or attending annual school events like the Special Interest Fair and International Night. Students gain leadership experience volunteering to greet visitors, beautify the school or help with morning announcements.
