Cuyahoga Heights Middle School (CHMS) serves 190 students in six through eighth grades from Cuyahoga Heights, Brooklyn Heights and Valley View. CHMS is located on the same campus as Cuyahoga Heights High School and Elementary School. US News and World Report ranks CHMS as #16 in Ohio Middle Schools, with one hundred percent of the school’s 19 full-time teachers being fully certified and having at least three years of experience.
90% of CHMS students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 87% scored at or above that level for reading. CHMS is a forward-looking educational environment, recognizing that early adolescence is a period of rapid change. During this time, individual development occurs through intellectual, physical, emotional and social challenges.
The leaders, teachers and staff of Cuyahoga Heights Middle School care for student development by following a core mission. The school fosters academic excellence in students through traditional, flexible and creative educational modes to accommodate various teaching and learning styles.
Each year, the school provides students with a curriculum that encourages creativity and critical thinking. CHMS also provides co-curricular and extracurricular activities that foster curiosity and exploration. Students are guided through physical, intellectual, social, emotional and moral development through the coordinated effort of students, staff, administration, parents and the community. Students develop pride in their work and achievements as they progress through their time at CHMS.
