A public school in Manatee County, Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School teaches children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The faculty incorporates the school’s mascot, the Wildcats, into its mantra – Leadership Habits Pounce into Action! – and another important statement for the students: We are respectful … we are responsible … we are wild about learning! Students live out these beliefs throughout the year in the school’s many special events. Leadership Day, Heritage Day and Earth Day are a few of the annual activities. During STEAM (which stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) Night, students showcase projects they’ve completed and participate in hands-on learning opportunities. International Peace Day encourages the children to practice kindness daily, and they re-create a peace symbol in the grass. They also paint a Peace Pole, which is displayed in the front of the school. Interested students can learn new skills by taking part in the school’s own TV station. Beyond the extracurricular festivities, McNeal’s students have well above-average test scores and student progress scores. There are 16 students per teacher, which is slightly fewer than the state average. McNeal is near a major thoroughfare and close to a public middle school and a private academy.

As she is in VPK, I deeply appreciate the staff’s attentiveness and the genuine care they show by personally escorting her to her classroom each morning. Her teacher is wonderful — caring, patient, and...

My son has been going there 4 years now. The principal has come and gone. Not that it has changed any. The line to drop your child off is HORRIBLE!! Its connected to a middle school and you sit in line for 15 mins. On a good day and at 8 am you might sit for 8 mins.... The teachers are a hit miss my...
