The Potter’s House is a private Christian school located on two campuses in the Urbandale neighborhood of Wyoming, Michigan. The elementary and middle schools reside at 810 Van Raalte Drive SW, while the high school campus is located at 2465 28th Street.
Founded in 1981, twelve elementary-age students and two volunteer teachers constituted the first Potter’s House class, and operated in the basement of the nearby Grandville Avenue Christian Reformed Church. The middle school program followed a decade later in 1992, and in 1998, their college-preparatory high school began conducting classes.
After purchasing the former Southwest Christian School building adjacent to the church, The Potter’s House continued to grow. There are currently 620 students enrolled in the school, including students in preschool through twelfth grade.
The school’s preschool is limited to eighteen students per class, allowing a high level of interaction between students and teachers. This program is Star-rated by Great Start to Readiness by the state of Michigan.
Students at The Potter’s House are provided with a rigorous core curriculum and additional supplements in creative arts, Spanish, music and technology. Middle and high school students also participate in the school’s one-to-one Chromebook use policy, allowing them to have technology available to them at all times.
Standardized testing is utilized two to three times per year in order to evaluate the educational needs of students at The Potter's House. Ninety-five percent of high school students at The Potter’s House go on to pursue a college education.
