Sibley Elementary School welcomes students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Located in the South West Area Neighbors, or SWAN, Sibley prides itself on offering educational opportunities with strong neighborhood partnerships.
The Little Red Hawks at Sibley enjoy many activities and events, from fall kickoff and spirit week to mobile food pantries and community cleanups. Scholars at Sibley Elementary partner with Stocking Elementary and Westwood Middle School for peer tutoring, mentoring, and recreational activities.
The curriculum is designed to empower students and promote the school as a cultural center of the community. To reach these goals, teaching practices at Sibley focus on both social and academic skills, including speaking, writing, listening, reading, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, mathematics and collaboration. Since 2022, the school no longer has a school uniform requirement, so students can wear clothing that provides them with agency as long as it fits the new dress code policy.
There are approximately 16 students for every teacher at this SWAN public school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Thanks to the Principal, Executive Director of Transitional Bilingual/Dual Language Programs and the other talented staff, Sibley students from dual language or bilingual homes have the resources and support they need to succeed.

Unfortunately this school has had a tolerance for a certain teacher mistreating, yelling and isolating certain students. There has had to be absolutely 0 accountability taken on the adults end. Sibley Elementary is a hidden gem on the West Side. We switched when moving to the neighborhood in 2021. The Principal leads a great team of Teachers, Office Admins, Nutrition Services Workers, Cleaners, Counselors and Support Staff.. It really does feel like family. It is a beautiful thing to send...

Some areas really good especially the IEP team along with speech therapy along with occupational therapy did great job. But ultimately terrible because of the attitudes of staff about children's behaviors and bullying being swept under the rug proverbially.
