Grosse Pointe South High School serves the suburban Detroit community of Grosse Pointe. Established in 1928, Grosse Pointe South High School has been nationally ranked, and famously hosted Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 for his speech, "The Other America." The site was recognized by the Michigan Historical Commission with an historic marker and the school's beautiful Georgian Revival architecture was designed by Detroit-based architect George J. Haas. Grosse Pointe South High School serves ninth through 12th grade students and offers students a comprehensive lineup of Advanced Placement courses to prepare them for college. Students may study French, Spanish, Italian or German at the AP level as well as many other subjects. In 2022, 61 percent of GPSHS students taking AP exams earned a score of 3 or higher and the graduating class included four National Merit Scholars. Committed to athletic achievement, Grosse Pointe South High School's Blue Devils compete ferociously in 33 varsity sports combined for men and women. The women's tennis team were state champions between 1976 to 1986 and 2014. Outstanding extracurriculars include a nationally-awarded show choir and competitive robotics teams. An integral part of the Detroit community, Grosse Pointe High School students continue to make history.

Many of the administrators fail to listen to student voice. Many policies excuse bad behavior with no consequences while others target non-issues. There is very little diversity. There are a lot of clubs and sports for any interests though.

This school does not care about it's students, academics are mediocre and bullying is rampant, as well as unsafe.

The teachers are nice and most of them are good, but the school system and administration needs to do more about sensitivity and dealing with the casual and not-so-casual racism in the community.

My son just started college and is excelling there after his 4 years at Grosse Pointe South. What he learned in high school in terms of not only studies, but also friendship, interaction and self-confidence has more than prepared him for advanced education. Grosse Pointe South is a special mix of pr...

Amazing school overall. Extracurricular classes are amazing. Classes and teachers are amazing. Students, not so great- judgmental, snobby, and not very diverse. Hard to fit in socially- especially if your not like the rest of the students. School work, you'll learn a lot but the course load is tough...

Great School. Awesome kids. Amazing teachers. Rigorous academics. Competitive Athletics. Wide offering of sports. Numerous activities and clubs. Tradition galore. Strong Community. There is something for everyone here. It's a beautiful campus. It just needs a new principal.

Like many kids probably do, I HATED high school. I really did not excel at GPS and barely was accepted to college. Grosse Pointe South was far harder academically than my four year university. I received a great gift from my parents by virtue of them choosing this community in which to live.
