The Stevens T. Mason Elementary school was designated a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education for its academic achievements and commitment to high scholastic standards. First opened in 1929, the Stevens T. Mason Elementary school was named after Michigan's first governor, and initially served the farming community of the village of Lochmoor. Today the area is known as Grosse Pointe Woods.
Educating kindergarten through fourth grade students, Mason Elementary promotes literacy and problem solving skills using a core curriculum of math, science, social studies and the language arts, with electives in art, Spanish and computer technology.
The Mason Elementary Moose are supported by vibrant extracurricular engagement that includes field trips to Parcells Middle School to prepare fourth graders to enter the fifth grade, color fun runs, outdoor festivals for kindergartners and environmental initiatives that encourage student involvement in conservation and sustainability programs. Mason Elementary was recently awarded Green School status by the state of Michigan as an official "Evergreen School" for its efforts to protect the environment.
Mason Elementary strives to execute its mission to "value each child's self-worth, unique abilities and talents," to empower its students "to flourish in a competitive and dynamic society."
