The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Black River is an academically challenging school. Very small student population but good student to teacher ratio.

I enjoy Black River because it is a perfect size: small, but not too tiny; it has excellent AP options, teachers who care about students with a compassion that extends beyond teaching requirements and a racially and socio-economically diverse community.

This school is very small but that is what makes it such a high quality education. The teachers know all their students by name and have a close relationship with them as the classes are quite small. The classes are very quick pace and if not familiar with that environment, students may struggle at first to get ahold of the expectations for each class. But in the end, the education is very strong and all the teachers are extremely qualified to be doing what they are doing.
Black River has some excellent teachers, but if your child isn't at the honors level, your child will feel the minority. They do offer after school support, and some resources, but disappointed that the school lacks diversity in student learning styles and levels. Also, disappointed in the principal...
I love that they focus on the child, not the group. They see each student as an individual and teach accordingly. They seem to truly care about the students as well.

I have been incredibly pleased with Black River. My now 3rd grader has been at Black River since Kindergarten. There is so much communication between parents and teachers, and she is above grade level in every subject.
