GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I like most of the teachers at Houghton Lake High School, most of them truly care about the students and try to make school a more positive experience. What I'd like to see change is the fact there are a lot of underlying problems in the school such as bullying, assault, etc. that the school ignores and choses not to take action on. They chose to prioritize other less important matters such as dress codes, when their efforts could be used in more important matters.

I graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 2017. It felt like a 2nd home to me. All of the teachers were very willing to work with you on anything you needed assistance with. It's the perfect small town school!!

School system falls short. High percentage of students in early grades (1-4) being expelled repeatedly, with very little effort to correct methods of handling problems. Procedures that are designed by parents and the county, are not followed through with once it enters the school system. Very little...

I am a Freshman and here's my 100% honest opinion. The teacher's try their hardest to teach us and there are many bullies but just ignore them and stay away from them. When I first came here I expected my teachers to be the meanest of the mean but over these past years they're the nices people ever...

This school, should not even be called a "School!" I am a parent of an 11th grader whom went to this school. I was transferring her out of H.L.H for many reasons, and get this; " It took 2 weeks to receive unofficial transcripts!" Supposedly ONLY 1 person is authorized to release, yet that 1 person...
