Named for long-time Aldine Independent School District educator and Acres Home native Jewell Houston, Houston Academy at 8103 Carver Rd. is the only school left in the district that serves only fifth and sixth graders. The school teaches its 400 scholars to succeed by serving and improving the community.
Houston Academy has been recognized as a School of Distinction by the National Magnet Schools of America for math, science and fine arts. Although the school’s test results are a bit below the state average, its student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1 compares favorably to the 15-to-1 state average.
Realizing that clubs and organizations help develop all-important skills like leadership and empathy, Jewell Houston Academy offers a variety of clubs and organizations. There’s something for everyone, including the History Fair, Honor Society, science and coding clubs as well as seasonal sports.
As a fine arts magnet school, Houston Academy also prides itself on its fine-arts offerings such as dance, drama, and even concert and gospel choirs. Vibrant student artwork decorates the campus inside and out.
A neighborhood magnet school of choice, Houston Academy is often the next stop after Anderson Elementary for fine-arts-focused Acres Homes students.

This school is absolutely the worst school in Houston. The Principle is mediocre, as well as the teachers. I can't see kids learning something from them. If you are taking your children here, that would not be a good idea.

Houston Academy is a great school , both of my children attended this school. They were both straight A students here. :)
