Located in Houston's Briar Village neighborhood, Westside Montessori School combines convenience with quality education. Westside Montessori School is a private school nurturing prekindergarten through eighth-grade students.
The school's mission is to educate young children while upholding the American Montessori Society principles and philosophies. The Montessori method aims to help children reach their full potential by using Dr. Maria Montessori's philosophy of letting them follow their internal instincts.
An initiative led by a group of parents in the spring of 1977 led to the founding of Westside Montessori School. Still adhering to its founding principles, the school has grown from its original two classrooms to a multi-facility campus. The school focuses on a core curriculum including history, economics, government, English, pre-algebra, fine arts and more.
With almost 200 students, Westside Montessori School has five buildings for each grade level. The campus features a large, fenced playground area for students to play on. After-school activities are plentiful, with options such as martial arts, dance, drawing club and more.
Students at Westside Montessori School are taught the value of giving back to the community. Volunteerism is prevalent throughout the school with fundraising events and community service in book and coat drives, bake sales, helping at the Houston Food Bank and more.
During the school year, catering provides hot lunches and snacks five days per week for an additional fee. Additionally, the school offers a summer session with enrichment classes such as science, art, movement and more.
