Rural Ionia County is home to Haynor School, a small educational institution inspiring students since 1866. A small student population and multi-grade setting give Haynor School a unique and friendly atmosphere for children to learn and grow. Students can receive a modern education in a classic, rural setting from kindergarten through fifth grade.
At its founding in 1866, the school was called Grove School and featured a single classroom. It was renamed in 1938 after Albert and Mary Haynor. Two restrooms and an additional classroom were added throughout the years to accommodate a growing student population.
Today, Haynor School includes two classrooms – one for kindergarten through second grade and another for third through fifth grade. Students can use laptops and tablets on a one-to-one basis for online coursework and technological learning. Art, physical education and music round out the extracurricular enrichment available for every young learner.
While Haynor School doesn’t provide lunches or bus service, parents are welcome to send a hot lunch and carpool to provide daily transportation. Routine field trips and a carnival hosted by the school’s fifth graders allow students to connect with the Ionia County community and prepare for their middle school journey.
