Jemison High School is a small high school in the dead center of Alabama. One of the biggest problems with the school is that it is too small. It was built over fifty years ago to be a 2A school, but since then the school population has tripled. It doesn't have the budget or funding to make the school bigger, and the other schools in the area are not much bigger. The school tries to fit over seven hundred students, in a school built for a third of that. One thing Jemison strives at is their band program which has won many awards and has a great reputation in Central Alabama. Their marching band is very good, and it continues to win many awards.

Jemison High School has many problems. These problems also occur in vast sections of the school. I have had many issues with the teachers and counselors simply not caring for their job. There are some who have issues with students and rather than being a mature adult and letting these simple issues go they make it their job to bully that student. I have also had problems with the students. Many simply don't care for their future and I feel part of this is a result of the teachers not showing they care for us and our education. I feel had we grown up in a school that had counselors and teachers who showed they cared and were here to answer questions our graduates would be able to go much further in life. This school has the potential to be an amazing school and many of the students here feel like family to me but there are so many negatives weighing us down that the school itself is losing its value.

I have enjoyed being a student at JHS. I think the teachers and administration have prepared me well for college.

Its dark and dismal. It has the appearance of being filthy. There is a total lack of respect for student opinion. Unless of course you are related to a teacher in some way. The average student without connections is treated as if they don't matter. If accused of any infraction they are guilty with o...
