I can't say enough good things about Niji-Iro. It's more than a school, it's a community. My husband and I don't know Japanese or have connections to the culture but we couldn't pass up our kids having the experience in a public school. Both of my boys (kindergarten and 3rd grade) can read, write and speak Japanese and they know everything they would in regular school. The teachers are thoughtful and engaged with parents. The parents are more involved then most schools and our cultural events are showstopping. I also love that it's a k thru 6th grade school, it allows my kids to stay kids longer with a community of families we're close to.

I would highly not recommend this school unless you are Japanese maybe and/or don't care about being involved.Bullying is huge here. Don't expect to get help with assignments. In fact, if your child is struggling, they tend to blame you and teachers aren't obligated to share curriculum, translation...

I saw only few teachers I wasn’t impressed but overall the school was excellent. The math level keeps Japanese school standard, so at least one year in advance. Small numbers of students per class room, so kids and parents help each other. Expectations of parents are high and they are educated. Livo...

So far it’s been great. My daughter is only first grade and attended kindergarten there, so this review is based on that. The teachers speak great Japanese and if you want you child to be Japanese/English bilingual, this is the place to do it for free in Metro Detroit. Very impressed with the school...

Don't be fooled by the Grades report as this school is too new to effectively measure--and the details of the school are out of date. The school provides K-6th and has way more than 120 students now.
