South County High School is often portrayed as a model of suburban academic excellence. But peel back the carefully curated image, and what you'll find is a deeply flawed institution that fails its students in almost every meaningful way. From a toxic social environment to ineffective leadership and apathetic teaching, South County might just be the worst high school in the region—and it's time someone said it out loud.

As a current student at South County High School, I can say that my experience has been mostly positive/neutral. Some teachers are excellent, but I found an inconsistency in teaching quality. I have experienced some frustrations with school administration and have felt like a number and not a person. I hope for better resources and engagement from school administration for future students.

I enjoyed being at SCHS. My favorite things were the people and activities there. There is a lot of school spirt and chances for students to engage.

my child has been in the hospital for 2 months now and the school has offered no support! my child feels worthless, and has depression, severe anxiety, PTSD, bpd, autism, diabetes, Chlamydia, and is getting bullied everyday by students AND teachers! I would never recommend this school.

Every experience is unique, so please take each review and timing into consideration. Not to suggest the most recent 5-Star was wrong, but we believe that is the exception. Hiring the current principal was one of FCPS’s biggest mistakes, and he will eventually leave the school worse off than when he...

Both of my children are thriving at this school. The social environment is fantastic—there’s a place for everyone, and students easily find peers who share their interests. The wide range of AP courses is impressive, and teachers are always available to provide support when needed. The school is 100...
