GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Clay County High School is located in the hills of southeastern Kentucky. We are located in a very rural area, so hardly known around the state. But we have a tight knit community where everybody knows each other and we always have a lending hand towards one another. I love my school because of our hard work and dedication to prove that we are more than just living life, but that we will succeed in anything we pursue.

CCHS has its good and its bad. The good are some of the teachers (Mr. Bray, Mark Jason, etc.) and the bad is mostly the administration, especially the incompetent principal. Lots of good changes were made this year, mostly due to Mrs. Asher, Mrs. Hibbard, and Mr. Baker's initiative. It has a lot of potential.

I like the personal relationships that you build with the students from the community but the school itself isn't very caring. Not many teachers care or have compassion for what they teach and it results in lacking test scores year after year. My graduating class' average score for a practice ACT was 17. This is three points below the national average but was celebrated among many of the faculty members. More compassion needs to be involved with the teachers.
