After attending 4 years at Mathis High School I have had both good and bad experiences. This a school that has nice and understanding staff but the students act otherwise. My sophomore year we had a young boy commit suicide in my grade and the school refuses to acknowledge it at first. Mathis High School did not want to be associated with condoning bullying so acknowledging this boys suicide took longer than it should have. I would like to see the staff we have that is very nice to all students to pay more attention to the quiet ones that do not talk as much.

The worst part was the band program, the students didn't care and the passion wasn't there anymore for most students. The best part was the bond between the students and the teachers and how they weren't uncomfortable asking questions. I feel that is very crucial when teaching, because it shows which students are understanding the material and which aren't.

My experience with Mathis High School was alright I guess. Most students feel as though the school does not really care about us at some points, but I think that they do care. The did their best to give us a normal school year whenever COVID hit, and I think that did a pretty good job on helping us feel normal again.
