GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The faculty is varied. Some are good, but most are not. Administration in the school overlooks students needs and desires. The school is also outdated with many outdated sources for students to use and acquire for academic purposes. Athletics are also poor.

Fort Chiswell High School offers the community of a rural, small-town academic environment. It offers dual credits through the local community college and facilitates Governor's School pathways. However, the administration does not adequately educate the student body about college beyond trades. Many students are not even aware of the Common Application.

Lots of favoritism with students whose parents are highly known in the community. Other students not given "easy" treatment like those students. Those students got by with more than the average student could. Teachers had habits of often belittling students if they did not understand assignment criteria.

Hortible. If you want your child to have a good education keep them away from this school. If your kid is popular then you will have no problems.

My child is currently attending this school. I feel that the teachers challenge the students to learn.

This school is terrible especially if you are an African-American. They purposely try to fail all African-Americans. My children went to high school at Fort Chiswell and so did I. Things really changed after Mrs. Jackson retired. The school became more racially biased and the teachers are less prepa...

This school definetly does not prepare students for a college education. I know many students who have graduated from FCHS and have trouble doing simple math still today. Students who have graduated and went on to college and had to repeat classes at the college that they had already taken at FCHS b...
