Since moving to merrillville and entering the school system I've learned my path and what I would like to do for the rest of my life. I was given the opportunity to do so with the resources provided to me through our school system. At East Chicago I had no purpose or no way to get to that purpose due to how limited everything seemed to be there. The school system is far from perfect but they provide you with everything that you need to be successful you just have to take control of your life and resources and make them useful to you just as I did. I never imagined myself signging up for colleges or even applying for scholarships but due to my exeperience at merrillville high school I am now living in a reality out of my own imagination.

My experience in my high school was for the most part a really good experience as I got to learn in different environment of my choice. In terms of academics and requirements I wish a had a few better teachers because I felt like they weren't always the best when teaching or fair with grading. I felt boosted to a standard I could not fulfill at those times and it felt quite unfair that I was put in such a position. Also I wish I had a better experience when it came to eating lunch as I was often hungry because of the bad quality of the food. What made my experience good though was being around my friends and having a good connections with most of my teachers for the most part and J hope they continue to hire teachers who connect with their students.

When my wife and I were considering moving from a top-rated school system in Illinois with our three school age children to Merrillville, we thought the school system was good but had a bad reputation. After ten years and soon to be three graduates, many activities, interactions with parents, studen...

this school was so terribly awful to me and my family. the teachers were supposed to be a mentor to the children, but they ended up being a disaster. they lose the children's work then proceed to blame it on the same kid. they are supposed to build your kids up and encourage them to grow and do bett...

Merrillville High School is a very high achieving school. It celebrates diversity and real life. The kids get along great. People that talk poorly about the school are not well informed and probably have left the district only to find out that the grass is not greener.Involved Parent
