Highland Elementary School has an arts-focused approach paired with STEM education to provide students with a comprehensive educational experience. In 2014, Highland teachers began the Lincoln Center Education Training to develop and implement arts integration lessons directly into English language arts, social studies, math and science standards. Teachers have also trained with the Kennedy Center for the Arts. Additionally, a resident teaching artist from Arizona State University is a dedicated resource on the Highland campus. The arts integration permeates throughout the campus, with student artwork regularly on display. Highland students recently contributed to an oversized outdoor mural with artist Hugo Medina that sits as a colorful backdrop to the playground. Students also have the opportunity to learn how to create audio and video performances alongside many other arts and academic activities. Inspired by its vision to turn young minds into artists who are inspired to be confident, capable citizens and problem solvers, Highland has a student population of about 700 students. The student-to-teacher ratio is 16-to-1, lower than other elementary schools in the Mesa Unified School District. US News and World Report ranks Highland number 370 in Arizona Elementary Schools out of 1,006 schools evaluated.

A certain un-named math teacher constantly yells at students and discriminates against students of color. My husband and I met with the principal about our concerns and they were ignored. We are pulling our children asap.

I have 4 children currently attending Highland Arts. We have had nothing but positive experiences in every facet of their education experience there. The teachers are all creative and caring. They reach out to my children in unexpected ways that make not only my kids feel loved and important, but al...

We've had all five of our children attend Highland Arts Elementary School from Kindergarten through sixth grade, which has amounted to a 16-year partnership with our neighborhood school. I've been a regular volunteer there that many years as well. Highland is a great place to learn and make friends....
