Monacan High School is a high-performing school in Virginia, one of 11 high schools in the Chesterfield County school system. Monacan’s ninth through 12th grade students perform above state averages for math and reading test scores. Besides traditional core classes, there are two specialty centers housed at Monacan, the Center for the Humanities and the Health and Physical Therapy Specialty Center. The Center for the Humanities is an interdisciplinary program in liberal arts where students take core courses that emphasize a specific area of study in history, literature or the arts. The Health and Physical Therapy Specialty Center provides students with academic and practical field experiences in various health careers. Students in this program must still take the four core subjects each year of high school. Both specialty centers require students to commit to and complete community service hours. Monacan offers a variety of clubs and organizations for students to nurture their interests and connect with their peers. These activities include Drama Club, Anime Club, ultimate frisbee and Dungeons & Dragons.

I have not at all enjoyed my time here at Monacan. Most of the teachers do not do everything they can to prepare the students for college. The kids are not kind and I am so excited to leave.

While Monacan is a good high school there are definitely better ones. There are a bunch of great teachers, but a bunch of bad ones as well, it all depends on the teacher.

Office staff are not the most helpful or friendliest. Some teachers do not seem very professional or proficient. However, other teachers and staff are great and passionate about teaching and supporting the students and their families.

I cannot stress how much this school overprepared me for college. Those four years of high school were easily the worst of my life. I did more work than necessary in every class and the trauma that comes with that can't be overstated. Do yourself a favour and be like everybody else, because if you s...

The school is like a community, and for that I didn’t give it a one. I’ve had two children go through there. Both were honor roll students in the top 15%. They were involved in school, but not a ton. Had outside jobs. Did some community service. Their teachers loved them and they always won a lot of...

This was the worst 4 years of my life. I had no preparation for college/the "real world" at all, and most of my teachers treated the class like a joke. I was in the Humanities program, which wasn't great either. AP Chemistry is an absolute laugh; my whole class got a 1 on the exam, even the kids who...
