Located just steps from Chelsea Market, the Highline and the West Village, Corlears School serves students from prekindergarten to fifth grade. This private school opened its doors in 1971 and believes in an education that develops creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Kindness, respect, and integrity are woven into every interaction.
The school identifies three key areas including equity and inclusion, early year identity and social justice education. Students work both individually and collaboratively to engage in strategic problem-solving. No advanced placement courses are offered. The curriculum includes classes in social studies, science, literacy, mathematics, Spanish, the arts, physical education and technology.
Other activities Corlears students can participate in include summer camp, book fair week and more. Students are also equipped with either Dragon Touch tablets or Chromebooks depending on their grade level.
Along with the curriculum, conversations about identity, race and social justice are integrated into daily school life. Corlears School’s curriculum prepares students to become responsible and contributing members of their community.

Corlears has been a great school for our son and our family. Our son has learned to be a flexible thinker which has helped him excel in all subjects, and especially math. The school also instills its students with a strong sense of self, as well as an understanding of their community-members and the world at large. The social justice curriculum is particularly impressive. And, we love the other families.

Incredible place. Warm, welcoming; tight-knit, diverse community; all in combination with strong academic curriculum. Leadership and faculty have done exceptionally well during COVID. Fully open and operational.

Do yourself and your children a favor by looking elsewhere. The teachers are stressed and it affects relationships with students and families. There are plenty of other great options out there including public school.
