The coed school P.S. 165, also known as Robert E. Simon School, serves approximately 380 students annually from prekindergarten through fifth grade. The student-teacher ratio is 11-to-1, and the school's building on 109th Street contains 59 classrooms. The school is named after a longtime Manhattan real estate figure who pioneered the development of planned communities around the nation. The curriculum focuses on helping students develop the skills they need to be successful academically, emotionally and socially. P.S. 165 works with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and offers a Literacy Hub that welcomes parents, the school community and neighborhood residents to “Read Together, Lead Together” events. With an on-site kiln, the school offers students artistic enrichment through ceramics classes, while the music program features a partnership with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Extensive science and technology offerings include STEM learning initiatives and hands-on computer training. Each grade attends weekly lessons to focus on keyboard skills and research projects. Collaborating with the Urban Advantage program gives students real-world experience with institutions like zoos, botanical gardens and museums. The school’s physical education options have expanded with an E3 Sports Recess program.

My daughter currently attends PS 165, she looks forward to school daily & is excited to see her teachers and classmates. The teachers are warm, knowledgeable & easy to reach. When I reach out to the teachers they respond quickly & provide feedback. We feel fortunate to be here.

My son started Pre-K in September and we are so happy with PS 165. He's learning, engaged, and every morning he wakes up excited to go to school to see his teacher and classmates. This is a very solid community of educators and parents, and I'm continually impressed with their kindness, hard work, a...
