Affiliated with Reform Judaism, Rodeph Sholom School is a private, independent institution providing education and nurturing for young scholars from preschool age to eighth grade. Approximately 400 students learn in classrooms that feature an advantageous four-to-one student-teacher ratio.
Abbreviated as RSS, Rodeph Sholom is based in a large facility in New York’s Upper West Side that includes a dedicated gymnasium and multiple indoor and outdoor play spaces.
Enrichment programs in chess, movement, cooking, tennis, music, and martial arts complement academic offerings in mathematics, science, humanities, history, social studies, English literature, and romance languages.
The entire curriculum at RSS incorporates the study of Jewish life and culture, including an intensive focus on Hebrew. Common Core subjects such as social studies are also taught here, offering lessons in geography, mapping, economics and community organization.
Middle schoolers at RSS take Spanish and French classes in addition to their Hebrew studies. A performing arts program commits to staging a theatrical musical every year. Band classes take place during the day for older students, with after-school sessions conducted for the lower grades.
An after-school “campground” program at RSS engages children in a variety of outdoor activities. And for student-athletes, RSS also offers volleyball, soccer, cross country, basketball, baseball, track and field, and tennis.
