Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan is a co-educational Jewish day school named for the founding rabbi of the American Conservative Judaism movement. The school graduated its first students in 2006 and moved into its present Columbus Avenue building in 2011. With approximately 125 students in kindergarten through 8th grade, the student-to-teacher ratio at Schechter Manhattan averages 7-1. A center for STEAM instruction (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) opened in 2015. Upper school students develop personal academic portfolios to monitor progress as they approach graduation. Chartered by the New York State Board of Regents and accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools, Schechter Manhattan is a Prizmah Jewish Day School Network member. Alongside enrichment programs in band, choir and instrumental music, students engage in a deep study of the Hebrew language. Sports include basketball, soccer and intramurals for both girls and boys. There are cooking, math, sewing and knitting, science and technology clubs, a student newspaper and a yearbook. Community service is also emphasized, with an initiative called the 107th Street Food Pan-TREE aiming to address food insecurity in the neighborhood. An active high school placement program matches suitable higher learning programs with Schechter Manhattan’s 8th grade graduates.

We have great experience with Schechter for the last 7 years with our 2 kids. The new leadership is making it even better, putting more efforts into the academic level, collaborating with other schools, and providing the right environment for the kids to thrive and become leaders.
