The Studio School is a private, independent, co-educational institution that enrolls approximately 100 students and offers pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade classes. Founded in Greenwich Village in 1971 as “The Studio on Eleventh Street,” it moved to the Upper Side in the late 1970s and settled into two repurposed, side-by-side brownstones in 2007.
Often referred to as “Studio,” it offers its youngest students lessons in world languages, art, natural sciences, music, movement and cooking. Elementary students, aged six to nine, move into scientific inquiry, technology, art, physical education and history. Middle school grades progress into college prep, with classes featuring analytic and abstract thinking, STEM, political science and performing arts. Computer proficiency is emphasized at this school, from basic keyboard skills to the more sophisticated elements of coding, robotics and video design. Studio offers children an array of sports, including basketball, flag football, track, soccer, gymnastics and Ultimate Frisbee programs for both boys and girls.

The Studio School is such a perfect fit for our daughter, an 8th-grader preparing to enter high school. It offered caring teachers and staff in a setting that instilled confidence and independence in a teen at a critical time in her life. Our daughter is happy. She's made good friends who she sees in and out of school. We feel she is ready for her next step, high school, because of the education on all levels she has received at The Studio School.
