Serving 500 students in the Newnan community, Atkinson Elementary School teaches prekindergarten through fifth grade. This public elementary school is part of the Coweta County Public School System. The school began as a grammar school in 1903 inside the home of a local family. Then, in 1909, a two-story building with eight classrooms was constructed and put in place of that home.
Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports, or PBIS, is a system that schools use to adopt one set of rules for all students. Teachers implement these research-based strategies, including consistent reminders of expectations, giving praise, a respectful tone toward students, ensuring all students are engaged during instruction, redirecting while teaching and providing positive, immediate feedback.
Atkinson Elementary School partners with businesses and community organizations that support the school in different ways. These include Box Tops for Education, Bridging the Gap, Walmart, Kroger, Publix and others. Students are also equipped with Chromebooks to enhance their learning online. Atkinson Elementary School guides students to learn leadership skills and prepares them for middle school.

My son has been at this school for over 2 school years and it has been amazing. Teachers care for their students and when we need to contact them, they answer pretty quick. In my opinion I will give them a 10 stars.

Love this school. my daughter went here for kindergarten and is going into first grade. She is in gifted program now and can read easily. Love the staff too. Very friendly and makes you feel welcome
