The Carolyn Barron Montessori School, or CBMS, is a private school situated among established homes and trees within the community of Newnan, Georgia. This prekindergarten through eighth grade school serves approximately 100 students with a low student-teacher ratio of around 13-to-1.
The school’s toddler program for students 18 months to 2.5 years teaches independence, respect and positive interaction through music and movement, language and phonics. In an open-flow classroom, toddlers learn order, sequence and practical life skills such as caring for their classroom.
For students between 2.5 and 6 years of age, the primary program teaches problem-solving, self-discipline, social skills, cognitive preparation and more. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and choose their own learning material while teachers guide, observe and prepare students well for the elementary level.
In the lower and upper elementary programs, students ages 6 to 12 years old learn creative writing, reading, geometry, geography, art and music. This program teaches students to be responsible members of their community as well as accountable for their own learning.
CBMS’ middle school program equips 12- to 14-year-old students with skills including persuasive speaking, project management and team building within a broad curriculum of literature, math, science, Spanish and more. From age 5 through 14, CBMS students can participate in Encore enrichment classes such as cooking, art, chess and running club.

This is our second year at CBMS and we love it. My son has developed close relationships with his friends and teachers as well as a pride in his independence. My daughter just started in the toddler program and loves it as well. The staff and teachers really put the children first.
