Nokomis Jr/Sr High School (NHS) is exactly the kind of place you'd envision when thinking about a high school in a small town in rural Illinois. We quite literally have a 'Drive your Tractor to School' day every year. The worst part is that the school isn't focused on college preparation and planning. From a 'STEM' standpoint, NHS is really lacking. There are no AP courses, very few dual-enrollment classes, and not much is done to prepare for standardized tests. However, NHS has a GREAT agriculture (ag) program. There are two different workshops where students get to work with electrical circuits, engines, woodworking, and welding. Even though I don't plan to make a career in agriculture, the ag program has given me hands-on experience, which is a welcome change from being at a desk all day. The teachers are nice, students are friendly and easy to get along with, and crime isn't much of a problem, which could be due to living in a small community where everyone knows everyone.

Nokomis JR/SR High accommodates the best possible way they can to students needs academically. Every student has their favorite teacher or admin, just like I do, but they are all helpful with any situation that arises.

People get in trouble for no reason. The rules are absurd. We never get snow days when we need it. Teachers ignore bullying and focus on wether or not the students are on their computers.
